Melih Onay obtained a PhD in Biochemistry in Middle East Technical University (METU) on Bio-fuel production from microalgae. He is working in the Van Yuzuncu Yıl University within ONAY LAB since 2015. The expertise of the Onay lab is in the field of computational and experimental biochemistry especially in the field of bioenergy production from microalgae in photobioreactors (Biodiesel, bioethanol and biobutanol production) and the modelling and simulation of photobioreactors for microalgae. He works with microalgae, cyanobacteria, and anaerobic photosynthetic bacteria.

He obtained a master degree in Biochemistry in Middle East Technical University (METU) on natural drug metabolism. His skills are related to study and model interactions between biochemistry (photosynthesis, drug metabolism and computational applications) and environmental engineering (wastewater management, biotechnological applications and sustainability) in photobioreactors. Our platform includes most aspects of isolation, cultivation, harvesting, extraction and product production of microalgae.
